We measured it

What “58% off” actually means on Flipkart

We compared the struck-through MRP against the price the product has really been selling at, across 579 tracked Flipkart listings. On the median listing the MRP sits 137% above its own typical price — so at a completely ordinary price, the badge already reads about 58% off.

Median MRP above the typical selling price
137%
Listings whose MRP is at least double the typical price
62%
The “off” badge shown at that ordinary price
58%
Median discount of a live deal against its own recorded high
38%

Those last two numbers are the point. Measured against MRP, a typical Flipkart listing looks 58% off. Measured against what the product has actually cost on Flipkart, the deals we are tracking right now sit a median of 38% below their own recorded high. The second number is the one worth acting on.

The full bar is the MRP. The filled part is the median price this product has actually sold at over the last year. Open any of them to check the timeline yourself.

How we measured this

For each tracked listing we take the median of every selling price we recorded for it over the last 365 days — its typical price — and compare that against the MRP shown on the listing. Only listings with at least five recorded prices in that window are counted, so a 'typical price' always rests on several observations. We report the median across listings, because a handful of extreme MRPs would drag a mean upwards.

The result barely moves when the evidence bar is raised: requiring three, five, eight or fifteen recorded prices shifts the median by a few points either way, so the figure is not an artefact of which listings we happen to sample often.

Worth knowing: These are listings that have surfaced in our deal feeds, not a random sample of each store's full catalogue, so they over-represent products that get discounted. A high MRP is also not by itself dishonest — it is the manufacturer's list price, and stores are entitled to show it. The point is narrower: the '% off' badge is calculated from that number rather than from any price the product has recently sold at. For the record, 1 of the 579 listings we checked had an MRP at or below their typical price.

Flipkart Price History — FAQs

Common questions about tracking Flipkart prices in India.

Can I see Flipkart price history for any product?

Yes. Paste the Flipkart product URL into Price History and we'll show you up to 365 days of price history in a clear chart. We track hundreds of thousands of Flipkart products across every category — electronics, fashion, home appliances, and more.

Does Flipkart inflate MRP to show bigger discounts?

The MRP on a Flipkart listing is typically far above the real selling price. We compared 579 tracked Flipkart listings against their own recorded history: the median MRP sits 137% above the price the product actually sells for, and 62% carry an MRP at least double their typical price. That means a '58% off' badge is roughly what an ordinary Flipkart price looks like. MRP is a list price and stores are entitled to show it, but it is not a discount you can bank on — compare against the product's own price chart instead. Measured that way, the Flipkart deals we are tracking right now sit a median of 38% below their own recorded high.

Does Flipkart increase prices before Big Billion Days?

Some listings do, but it is not the rule. We checked 183 tracked Flipkart products through the last two Big Billion Days: 19% were selling above their previous month's price in the run-up, with a median markup of around 9%. The other four in five were flat or already falling, and for 83% the lowest sale price genuinely beat the pre-sale price. Our chart shows you which case your product is.

How accurate is Flipkart price history data on Price History?

We crawl Flipkart multiple times daily and timestamp every price point. Our data is as accurate as Flipkart's public listing at the time of capture. For products added to your watchlist, we crawl more frequently. Note that very short flash sales (under 30 minutes) may occasionally be missed.

How do I set a Flipkart price drop alert?

Search for the Flipkart product on Price History, open its price history page, and click 'Set Alert'. Enter your target price and choose your notification channel (push, email, or Telegram). We'll notify you the moment the price drops to or below your target.

Should I wait for the Flipkart Big Billion Days to buy?

Usually it pays off — the sale low beat the pre-sale price for 83% of the products we tracked, and beat it by more than 10% for 63%. But not always: some products hit their lowest price before the sale opened and never went lower during it. Track the specific product now and compare the sale price against your own benchmark rather than the store's.

What is Flipkart's price guarantee policy?

Flipkart offers a limited price protection policy on some products. If the price drops within a certain window after your purchase, you may be eligible for the difference. Check Flipkart's current terms for specifics. Price History helps you buy at the right time in the first place — so you rarely need to claim it.
